Important Brake Maintenance Tips

August 10th, 2009 · No Comments · Communications

One of the things taken for granted in this world is driving a car.It has become second nature and routine and to some extemes a mindless activity for some people. You see people doing all kinds of things like doing makeup, reading, or talking on the phone, etc. while driving.

But if your put some thought into it, you will realize that your life is on the line everytime you step into a car.Whoever is at fault isn’t the focal point of this article, but accidents do happen.

One of the ways accidents are caused is through brake failure.Your brakes qualifies as one of the critical parts of your vehicle.Unfortunately, if it’s out of sight it is out of mind.  I have seen this firsthand with my San Diego brakes shop.

Your brakes definitely qualifies as out of sight.  But it is one part of your car that you need to keep regular maintenance on.  Whether you do it yourself, or hire a San Diego auto repair shop, you have to maintain it.After all, your’s and your family’s life and safety depends on it.

With that being the case, it will be relatively easy to maintain your brakes.  You can either go to a brake repair shop or you can learn how to do it yourself.

Either way, the two main things you need to look at are the brake fluid level and the brake pad condition. If you follow these two points vigilantly, you will ensure your brakes are safe.

When checking the brake fluid levels all you need to do is locate the fluid reservoir level. It is more often than not marked with a ‘min’ line and a ‘max line’.Make sure that the fluids are not below the ‘min’ line and you will not have any problems.

Also check to make sure that your brake fluid is clear and has a yellow color to it.If it is not, the brake fluid will need to be flushed and replaced with a new fluid.

Brake fluids are easy to maintain.  The more difficult part will be the brake pads.  For this, more often than not you will need a brakes repair company like my San Diego brake shop.

Most of the times your brake pads will let you know that they need to be replaced by making that loud screeching sound during braking.

If so, have them checked and replaced as soon as possible. Brake pads that are worn is hard to control or stop.

With your safety and your passenger’s safety directly effected, this is a no brainer. Get it checked and if you have to, go and get your brakes fixed.

Following these maintenance steps will ensure your car is safe for all driving conditions.
